...had enough feeling guilty your

children are playing games on the iPad/iPhone?

March, 2021

Yes! ...then EpicMem© could be the ultimate guilt-free app game for you. In fact, go ahead and pat yourself on the back, because this fun game designed by a neuroscientist, will have your kids stretching their brains without realising it!!

Whilst you sit back and relax in the knowledge that they’re building memory reserves that could impact how forgetful they are in later years, (always losing their keys, forgetting if they locked the door) your kids are having fun, playing what is a clever twist on a memory card game.

The EpicMem©-Brain Training game is beautifully presented with appealing emoji visuals. The game starts with cards being dealt face down, after which a few flip over to reveal different emojis. They then turn face down again and a card appears in the middle of the screen. The idea is to select the card from those originally shown to match the card in the centre. The game is challenging and totally absorbing, stretching your powers of memory - especially as the levels and speeds ratchet up.

Unlike other memory card games, EpicMem© has been specifically designed to train Episodic Memory. Episodic Memory develops from early childhood, most rapidly progressing between the ages of 6-11, and is hugely important in children’s learning and social development. Episodic Memory is in fact, central to human cognition, whether in an educational, work or simple everyday setting.

From a scientific perspective, the extent to which your memory declines in later life can depend on how much cognitive reserve you’ve previously accrued. As research highlights, memory function is typically preceded by neuronal loss long before we realise our memory is faltering, so building our memory reserve early on, and throughout our lives, is of crucial importance to maintaining healthy brain function later on.

EpicMem© now features on the Educational App Store’s Best Brain-Training Apps list. In emphasising the benefits of EpicMem© for parents and their children, the Educational App Store states that, “Many games have violence or quick reactions at their heart. EpicMem©-Brain Training entertains and occupies without recourse to either of these, which makes it a pleasant alternative to have available on a phone for long journeys and other times when children look for something to occupy themselves.”  They continue that “People of any age can play EpicMem©-Brain Training. The puzzle is simple enough for all ages to understand.“

Impressively, EpicMem available in six different languages and priced to be accessible to all.

EpicMem© is the brainchild of a neuroscientist and mother, who graduated from Kings College, London in 2000 and followed a career in the biopharmaceutical industry. Specializing in neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, she recognised how advances in the science of memory could be applied in a simple and fun game format to be made accessible to all.

In short, staying mentally active can be as enjoyable in the immediate, as it is worthwhile to our health and quality of life in the future. Indeed, as much as memory loss need not be an inevitable consequence of ageing, feeling guilty about your child playing on the iPad/iPhone need not be an inevitable consequence of parenting!
